Saddle, 2000- Janine Antoni
So I found this piece by Janine Antoni while browsing through a book with some Kiki Smith pieces. I really was intrigued by this piece because the artist had made a cast of herself on her hands and knees using fiberglass and then took a cattle hide and molded it over the cast. After the hide officially dried and hardened, she removed the cast giving Saddle this ghost like appearance of this body crawling or just stationary underneath the hide. I find this piece spooky, yet different from other art work that I have observed and I wanted to share this picture.
That is very spooky!
ReplyDeletethis is kind of fearful.but it is also let people to think about what he(she?) is doing...imagine..
ReplyDeleteIt is an eerie piece, but I like it. I think it's remarkable how it looks like it could come alive at any moment and just start crawling away. It kind of has the feeling that there's a story behind it. Maybe it's just because we're studying this in my history class, but it makes me think of a Native American who was in a Tee Pee when it collapsed during some sort of a confrontation and they're still underneath the cow hide, trying to sneak away.
ReplyDeleteI really like how it is spooky, I am afraid of what is going to come out at me...I think it is really intense and I kind of want to go scare some kids with a blanket now!
